SAMMAMISH WATERSHED FESTIVAL

The Sammamish Watershed Festival is a celebration of environmental education and Pacific Northwest culture for fourth grade students who live in the Sammamish Watershed, which extends from Everett to Issaquah.  Each May, students participate in a variety of hands-on activities at various stations in an outdoor setting.  Activities include the following:

·    The life cycle of the salmon

·        Native plant identification

·        Scale models showing the effects of pollution to ground and surface waters

·        Recycling with a game show theme

·        Water quality testing

·        Alternatives to household hazardous waste

·        Water distribution systems

·        Raptors of Northwest watersheds

·        Water conservation

The Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer District invites fourth grade classes from the Lake Washington and Issaquah School Districts to participate in the annual Sammamish Watershed Festival.  Private schools are also welcome.  There is no fee to attend, but teacher must arrange student transportation and bring at least two adult chaperones.  The 2003 Festival will be held at Blyth Park in Bothell, rain or shine.  For more information, please contact Janet Sailer, Water Conservation Coordinator, at (425) 392-4931 x204.
