Update January 2008

Background

Sewage from the District's sewer service area (most of the Sammamish Plateau) flows through a 20-inch diameter sewer interceptor constructed 20 years ago along SE 43rd Way and southward on East Lake Sammamish Parkway. Since 1991, sewage collected along the Lake Sammamish lakefront has been pumped through a forcemain along East Lake Sammamish Parkway that connects to the interceptor at SE 43rd Way.

Due to the rapid growth on the Sammamish Plateau over the past 20 years, a parallel sewer interceptor was installed in 2005 on East Lake Sammamish Parkway to help carry the sewage from the District's growing urban area. However, connection of the forcemain along East Lake Sammamish Parkway to the new interceptor could not be completed until the design and construction of the SE 43rd Way intersection improvements by the City of Issaquah were completed. Construction of these intersection improvements are scheduled for Summer 2008.

The District has prepared the design of the forcemain/interceptor connection, and will be advertising the project for public bids. The project will include realignment of a portion of the forcemain from the Mallard Bay Lift Station to East Lake Sammamish Parkway to preserve the nearby wetland. Construction of the forcemain connection is expected to begin in Summer 2008.
