244th AVENUE WATERMAIN EXTENSION
See Capital Improvement Projects Figure
PROJECT UPDATE (November 18, 2009)
The City of Sammamish 244th Avenue Improvement project consists of a road extension on 244th
Avenue NE from NE 3rd to NE 8th Street and other road improvements between SE 8th Street and NE 3rd Street.
A portion of the road extension will include a bridge across the wetlands just west of Allen Lake.
As part of this road improvement project, the District will complete a 12" watermain extension
to link NE 8th Street and Main Street in the District's 550 pressure zone. This will provide redundancy and
better flow from the Section 36 Tanks to the District's water distribution system. The design will also include
the relocation of District facilities that pose conflicts with the City's proposed road improvements between SE
8th Street and NE 3rd Street, and at NE 8th and 244th Avenue NE.
In March 2007, the District hired HDR Engineering Inc. to prepare the design of the 244th Avenue
Watermain Extension Project, SE 8th to NE 8th Project. The project includes 2,000 feet of watermain from NE 3rd
Way northward to NE 8th Street. Due to the proposed road revisions, the depth of cover over the District facilities
will force the District to relocate the existing watermains (8", 12", and 18" DI) and existing sewer forcemains (
10" DI) within 244th Avenue NE and NE 8th intersection. The project also includes the installation of watermain and
a casing for the sewer forcemain on the City's proposed bridge just north of NE 3rd Way and west of Allen Lake.
The District has hired Ceccanti to install the watermain and sewer forcemain for the project. Ceccanti
is also the same contractor for the City of Sammamish 244th Avenue Improvement project. Currently, Ceccanti has installed
a sewer bypass forcemain so they can begin work on the City's bridge substructure work. Installation of the new watermain
and the relocated sewer forcemain at the approaches of the bridge are proposed to begin in December 2009.
