| Pressure Your water meter is located below ground in what is called a meter box. These boxes are generally located at a property corner or on a property line. The boxes may be made from a variety of materials such as metals, plastics, concrete, or a combination of these materials. Different materials are used for various applications such as vehicle traffic areas, sidewalks and landscaped areas. The following are examples of different types of meter boxes as they may appear in your area.
Your water meter will be inside the meter box below ground level. Often the meter box will contain one or more water meters. Each meter will have an identification number stamped on the meter lid or on the outlet (customer) side of the meter body, that matches the meter number shown on your bill.
Reading your water meter Water meter readings may be displayed on the meter in a number of ways. However, most of the water meters in our area all read the same way. As shown below, all water meters will have an odometer type display, which reads in the measurement of cubic feet. (1 cubic foot = 7.48 gallons.)
There may be other features on your meter that can be useful to you when checking for leaks in your system. These features are referred to as leak detectors. Please speak to one of our customer service technicians for more information on leak detection. Below are some examples of meter types you may find in your meter box.
