SE 20TH STREET SANITARY SEWER EXTENSION 212TH TO 228TH AVENUE SE
AND WATER MAIN REVISIONS PROJECT

PROJECT UPDATE - November 18, 2009

Following public meetings on June 30 and July 6, 2009, the Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer District Board of Commissioners voted to proceed with the construction of the SE 20th Street Sanitary Sewer Extension 212th to 228th Avenue SE and Water Main Revisions project, and awarded the project to Ceccanti Incorporated General Construction.

The project consists of the installation of approximately 5,500 feet of 8-inch sanitary sewer main along SE 20th between 212th and 228th Avenue SE, 35 manholes, 6-inch side sewer stub-outs to each existing property, and temporary repaving on SE 20th Street. In addition, approximately 750 feet of water main will be relocated along SE 20th in the vicinity of 220th Avenue SE and 218th Lane SE in advance of the City of Sammamish's plan to lower the road to improve site distance.

The contractor had two crews working on the installation of the sewer main within SE 20th Street. One crew proceeded from 212th Avenue SE working eastward and from SE 228th Avenue SE working westward. The sewer main installation from 212th Avenue SE eastward has been completed. The sewer main installation from SE 228th Avenue SE working westward should be completed by the end of November, with the sewer main line stub-outs and side sewers installation completed in December.

The public is encouraged to use alternate routes, such as SE 32nd and SE 4th/SE 8th as shown on the map, and to expect significant delays when driving through the work zone area.

The City of Sammamish is proposing to construct non-motorized improvements (sidewalks, bike lanes, stormwater handling facilities, and repaving) along SE 20th Street from 212th Avenue SE to 228th Avenue SE. The Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer District initially considered the installation of sewers along SE 20th Street to provide sewer service in response to requests from some property owners. Construction of the sewer in advance of the City's proposed non-motorized improvements instead of in future years would avoid disruption of the City's improvements and much higher sewer construction costs. On June 10, 2009 the District received public bids for the sewer construction project which show a significant cost savings compared to previous sewer projects. The District's Board of Commissioners must now decide whether to take advantage of the favorable public bidding climate and proceed with construction of the SE 20th sewer.

District Staff will hold a Public Informational Meeting on:

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 beginning at 7:00 P.M.

at the District's Offices at 1510 228th Avenue SE, Sammamish, WA

The District's Board of Commissioners will conduct a Public Meeting to consider whether to proceed with construction of the sewers on:

Monday, July 6, 2009 beginning at 7:00 P.M.

at the District's Offices at 1510 228th Avenue SE, Sammamish, WA

The level of public support is one of the key factors that the Board will use in reaching a decision. Please plan to attend one or both meetings to indicate your opinion about the proposed project.

For more information about the project, please review the documents contained on this website. If you have additional questions, please contact the District at (425) 392-6256 or via email to kyle.wong@sammplat.wa.org.
